The History of Healthy Bonds
The Origin
The beginning of this project started with the basic idea that kids aren't being educated enough on the basics of sustaining healthy relationships. This led me to thinking about ways that kids tend to enjoy acquiring information and my mind went to educational animations/videos. I quickly learned that this was unrealistic for my timeline as the research aspect took longer than anticipated.
My original idea was then scrapped after our STEAM Professional Review Night, and with some input from educators present that night, I moved on to teaching aids for teachers to use in the classroom setting. I then found out that this already exists. In a few different formats. So I had to evolve my idea further and the question moved from "where is this resource?" to "why isn't this resource being utilized?"
That question led me to the very ironic realization that the problem with normalizing this topic is one of the biggest problems in maintaining healthy relationships; communication. I then decided to merge some of my ideas to create a more widely accessible resource that can educate as well as create awareness on the subject among the school community. This would normalize the topic and allow administrative professionals to understand the sincerity of the issue and implement those programs.

The STEAM Expo
The STEAM Expo night was long anticipated by all STEAM students and the build up led everyone thinking that they weren't prepared. I was in this same boat. Upon attending the Expo, I started talking about Healthy Bonds and not only realized what I've completed over these last 6 months, but I've realized the potential of what I could do for the future of this project. The potential to create a resource to be used in an educational setting and help reduce the stigma around all communities.
